President's Project 2020 - 2022

Promoting Diabetes Awareness

President Randy Matthews has chosen as the theme for 2020-2022, “Living the Volunteer Spirit—Empowering Others to Live Well”. The AFWC President’s Project is “Promoting Diabetes Awareness”. President Matthews challenges each of you as community volunteers to take an active role in protecting not only your own health and wellbeing, but also that of your family, friends, and others within your community. Over the next two years GFWC Alabama clubwomen will promote and learn about the causes and effects of the several types of diabetes and treatment of each, but most importantly ways to live well to prevent diabetes.

Working in conjunction with Camp Seale Harris and Southeastern Diabetes Educational Services, whose mission is to educate, encourage and empower children living with diabetes and their families to live well, GFWC Alabama clubwomen will be afforded the opportunity to raise funds and to volunteer in hands on projects. Hundreds of Alabama children and young adults attend Camp Seale Harris for a medically supervised, fun experience and family connection to year round support that helps them brave the fight against diabetes every day. GFWC Alabama Federation of Women’s Clubs will advocate for those living with diabetes as we plan for an engaging legislative event “Day on the Hill” in our state’s capitol visiting with lawmakers.
